The International Olympic Committee Diploma in Sports Nutrition is a postgraduate part-time distance learning programme awarded by the International Olympic Committee under its Health, Medicine and Science Commission. It runs over two years and is designed to build advanced understanding of nutrition science as it applies to athletic performance and health. The course is delivered primarily through online modules with computer-based lectures (audio/video), supplemented by directed readings, interactive elements, and optional monthly Zoom discussions with faculty and fellow students. There’s also an optional residential meeting with seminars and tutorials.
It’s aimed at students and professionals with a strong foundational knowledge of nutrition and exercise science, typically those holding an undergraduate degree in nutrition, dietetics, biological sciences, sports science, physiology, medicine, or related fields. English proficiency is required for non-native speakers. The programme assumes prior exposure to human metabolism and exercise physiology.
The International Olympic Committee Diploma curriculum is structured in two parts:
Part 1 and part 2 of the IOC Diploma each includes 10 modules, regular assignments, and an annual online exam. Successful completion, with satisfactory marks across coursework, assessments and exams is required to graduate.
Graduates earn the International Olympic Committee Diploma in Sports Nutrition, which carries significant academic and professional recognition globally. While it does not qualify graduates as registered dietitians, it offers a rigorous evidence-based foundation for those aspiring to work with athletes, support teams, or enhance a portfolio for further postgraduate study.
