Course Content
The Short Course in Integrative Sport and Exercise Nutrition for Exercise Professionals includes video lectures, targeted readings, a 30-minute one-on-one tutor session, online interactions with tutors and peers, and reflective self-development exercises.
We begin the course with an introduction to macronutrients, micronutrients and phytonutrients from an integrative perspective.
We then focus on two integral body systems:
Case study reading
Case study of a runner with digestive complaints, and then reflect on what you have learned from it.
Reflection exercise
Physical performance is the focus of session 2, which encompasses a presentation of performance-oriented nutrition practices, still through a ‘personalised health’ lens.
Calories within sport and exercise nutrition are introduced, in particular emphasising the many limitations involved in this quantitive way of assessing a person’s nutritional needs. We then offer alternative, and more personalised, body-system health strategies for supporting their body composition.
In addition to the caloric requirements for exercise, the body composition lecture focuses specifically on:
Case study reading
Case study of an elite judo competitor, and then reflect on what you have learned from it.
Reflection exercise
Specialty topics are the focus of session 3; in particular research contextualisation, the gut-muscle axis, and overtraining in sport and exercise.
Session 3 focuses firmly on applied practice, and begins with a lecture on the contextualisation of research in an active setting. Just because a research study concludes particular findings doesn’t mean that it is applicable to the individual sitting in front of us; to be good practitioners, we must combine research evidence with professional experience, and the client’s personal story.
In addition, the other presentations focus on these specialist topics:
Case study reading
Case study of a triathlete with detoxification requirements, and then reflect on what you have learned from it.
Reflection exercise
The final session is a 30-minute one-on-one session with your allocated tutor, giving you the opportunity to discuss any topic that you’d like to explore further. For example:
Whatever your interest at the time, this is a fantastic opportunity to receive personalised support for your professional needs – a feature that greatly boosts the value of this short course.

FAQs
While most online sports nutrition courses focus on the calories and macronutrients (carbs, fats and proteins) that an active individual should be consuming, this short course strongly considers the health of that individual, which ultimately underpins their physical performance and recovery from exercise. By nourishing every body system (e.g. gastrointestinal, immune, musculoskeletal, endocrine and nervous) with great food choices, your clients should be able to perform close to their personal optimum capacity. What’s more, this online sports nutrition course takes a very personalised view to working with exercisers – just like their exercise requirements, each individual requires (and deserves) a very unique support of their nutrition needs.
In summary, this course brings a very ‘fresh’ approach to the interpretation of sports nutrition.
This short course is worth 10 credit hours, which can be submitted to your own professional registration body. It is currently accredited by the American Nutrition Association, and other accreditations will be added soon.
No, unfortunately our online platform cannot accommodate an unlimited number of participants, so we make all resources (lectures, readings, presentation slides, free e-book, etc) downloadable. For the larger video files, there is a Vimeo Showcase link for you to download everything in one go. From registration, you will have access to the course for six months, giving you plenty of time to complete the course and download all materials.
It takes years to train as a sport and exercise nutritionist, so this 10-hour course is designed to start your journey towards more inclusion of nutrition advice within your existing exercise profession. If you enjoy this short course and wish to immerse yourself further, we have a 100-hour course called Integrative Sport and Exercise Nutrition for Movement Professionals – it will commence in mid-2026.
