Bone health from a genetic perspective – Karen Harrison

We don’t tend to think about poor bone health with regard to athletes; athletes typically do enough weight bearing exercise and eat in a healthy way, supporting the nutrient needs of bones. However, after consulting with a number of female athletes who experienced muscle stiffness and bone fractures, Karen noticed that at certain times of their menstrual cycle they were more vulnerable to injuries.

Karen’s approach when consulting with an athlete is to take into consideration their genetic tendencies and food intake, plus she works with coaches regarding the athlete’s training programme.

This webinar introduces you to genetic testing, the female hormone lifecycle, when a female athlete is at greater risk of injury, and also considers the best times of the month to consume different macronutrients. Karen will also discuss the genetic link between inflammation and bone health, plus the nutrients involved in keeping bones healthy.

If you were unable to join this exciting webinar live, you can catch up anytime on this discussion on bone health for athletes with Karen Harrison by clicking the link at the bottom of the page. All past CISN webinars are available as recordings on YouTube.
