Relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S) – Renee McGregor

Relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S), as the name would suggest, is a condition of energy deficiency, with adverse effects on all body systems, seriously affecting long term growth and development, health and wellbeing, and physical performance. It affects both male and female athletes who do not fuel adequately, either intentionally or unintentionally. RED-S is associated with perfectionist tendencies, disordered/restricted eating, frequent injuries and niggles, illness, and menstrual dysfunction in females.

Renee will discuss the main elements of relative energy deficiency in sport in a comprehensive way, including her own views of preceding factors, that she terms the ‘perfect storm’. She will then share some of her clinical insights with you, including how to recognise it, and the nutritional and psychological strategies required to work with these athletes.
