Trauma-informed sports nutrition: supporting athlete resilience – Whitney Iles

This webinar explores how psychological trauma can impact pain, movement, recovery, and physiology – and how integrative sports nutrition strategies can support individuals navigating these effects in a gym or sports setting.

Key aims of this webinar include:

  1. Understand how chronic trauma impacts appetite, digestion, inflammation, and nutrient status, which are relevant to sports performance and recovery.
  2. Identify nutritional imbalances and supplementation opportunities to support recovery and resilience in affected individuals.
  3. Apply trauma-informed approaches to sports nutrition planning, including client communication and pacing strategies.
  4. Recognise when referral or interdisciplinary collaboration may be needed (e.g. physio, psychotherapist, or specialised clinician).

About Whitney Iles

Whitney Iles is a trauma specialist and integrative nutritional therapist with over 20 years of experience in youth and community development. She is the Founder of Project 507, a social enterprise committed to transforming the systemic conditions that perpetuate trauma and violence.

With a background in psychodynamic psychotherapy and somatic trauma work, Whitney now brings her knowledge into the fields of sports nutrition, pain, and nervous system recovery, focusing on how unprocessed trauma shows up in the body—particularly through chronic pain, fatigue, and dysregulation. She specialises in supporting professionals, athletes, and gym-goers who may be navigating complex histories that affect their performance, recovery, or relationship to movement.
