Many sports and exercise associations recognise low iron levels in athletes as a common issue. The typical practice for addressing iron deficiency is to include iron-rich foods or take an iron supplement.
On many occasions, iron deficiency is typically diagnosed following a single blood test. However, this strategy can be overly simplistic when looking at athletes due to their specific individual demands, their physical symptoms and the particular sports they play or exercises they perform.
Researchers have found that iron levels in athletes (and the general population!) can be increased and optimised through a novel intervention using probiotics, and without the need for iron supplementation.
During this exciting webinar, we explore the vital steps within the process of iron absorption and consider the mechanistic action of probiotics as a potential intervention for iron deficiency, as well as discussing ways to support iron levels in athletes, in particular.
The CISN welcomes you to join Karen on 1st of March to discuss this fascinating topic. If you aren’t able to join us live, you can catch up on our chat with Karen by clicking on the link at the end of this page.
