Athletes, if they are not careful, are very susceptible to thyroid dysfunction, many of whom actually take prescription medication to support their thyroid gland. The physiological load of heavy training demands plus the psychological stressors of competition, accompanied by potentially inadequate food choices and recuperation strategies, can all contribute to endocrine disruption.
In addition to discussing physiological functioning of the thyroid gland within the integrative function of the body, Ian will review classic nutritional strategies for thyroid support. More than this, he will also illustrate through a case example how he would unravel thyroid stressors and nurture thyroid function in a therapeutic setting. In doing so, he will reveal his ‘secret weapon’ (Rachel Jesson) who will share deeply nourishing examples of food coaching that she would consider for a thyroid client.
